Central Switzerland Rivers

The most important river of Central Switzerland is the Aare.Though it has its origin in Northern part of Switzerland but it predominantly covers the central portion of Switzerland. This river covers the entire Central portion of Switzerland
and runs northeast to the Rhine River.

This river is the longest river in Switzerland and has a stretch of 294 kms. However, the most important feature of this river is that it surrounds and winds the entire capital city of Switzerland-Bern.Aare has a very rich relation with this city in all the three aspects that is geographically, historically and culturally. This river is milky blue in color.

This is because the river water is very rich in calcium as because the river originates from the mountains of Bernese Oberland. The other trademark of this river is its swift flowing nature and its cool water, which is perfect for having a pleasant bath.

The temperature of the river water rarely exceeds 20 degree Celsius inviting a lot of tourist to plunge into the river water. However, you have to be careful and sure of the fact that you are a good swimmer because of the river current. This Aare River is also famous for its water sports during the summer. The most common water sport played is river rafting.

The most common place for availing all these facilities is the Aarebad Muri bei.This is on the edge of the river. Apart from the sport facilities, this place boasts of good restaurants and swimming pools. You can also have a long stroll along the side of the river and enjoy the scenic beauty. There are few nice bridges that across the river Aare that invites tourist attention. These are Nydeggbrucke, Kornhausebrucke and Kirchenfeldbrucke.

This river also has other attractions for the tourist who are not into water sports or swimming. You can also enjoy a boat ride on this river. This boat ride will give you a chance to have a glimpse of the flower adorned monumental structures and other historic architectures of Sandstone.
