The Swiss wooden dolls were made after 1900 in the town of ‘Breinz’. The wood carvers of this region are known for their excellent craftsmanship for more than 100 years. These dolls are made from the ‘ Linden’ wood which is very soft and then carved by hand.
Some are painted also. Earlier the shoulder heads were mounted on bodies made of cloth with the lower limbs made of wood. The dolls are priced according to their hairstyles. Carved buns and braids, exposed ears and carved heads of the men are costlier than the simple ones.
